“We go on and on through the long months of our lives until we hit a sudden moment that stuns us.” – Elizabeth Hay, Late Nights On Air
Late Decemeber Epiphany
We go on and on
circle each other, want to take back
the ways we used to play
through the long months of our lives
before we longed for the days before
we began to shed innocence, to reason
until we hit a sudden moment
in our seasoned maturity (read “complacency” here) —
and here you’ll turn to the desert island page
that stuns us
inevitably, with its déjà vu revelation:
We’re all of us one with the universe.

“The Monthlies” is, as you'd guess, a monthly writing contest. Each month we post a prompt — a little tidbit of inspiration to help get your creative juices flowing.
You can submit via regular 'ol email or you can submit online.
In addition to our little monthly contest, we also offer a semi-annual writing contest. Prizes include $250, publication in the magazine and OV swag. Get all the details here.
