It’s hard to believe January is coming to a close (already!). With 2009 in full swing, conferences and professional development opportunities abound.
The first conference happening is the Alberta Magazines Conference on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 in Calgary. Thursday night is a “mix and mingle” for guests to network with new and old colleagues. Friday will consist of 12 skill-building seminars, along with a complimentary wine and cheese to cap off the night.
The early bird deadline is February 23 (online registeration will be available this week). View the program brochure or visit the Alberta Magazines Publishers Assocation ‘s website for more details.
The second conference happening is the Get Publishing Conference – Writing Across Borders on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 in Edmonton. Participants will have the chance to attend informative sessions designed to help emerging and established writers, a marketplace featuring a variety of vendors and a pitch camp – which is a one-on-one meeting with an editor, publisher or agent. Novelist and poet Thomas Trofimuk and Annari van der Merwe, publisher of Random House in South Africa, will be on hand as keynote speakers.
Visit the Get Publishing website for more details or to register.
