Submissions

Other Voices publishes poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, visual art, features and reviews. While not limited to the publication of female artists, we are proud of our feminist roots and, as such, particularly encourage work by women. In addition to seeking work that reflects diverse cultural, sexual and regional perspectives, we also invite submissions from new and emerging writers and artists. Other Voices is committed to helping underrepresented voices find the space to be heard.

Guidelines

Note: We will no longer be sending replies via snail mail. All replies will be sent via email and manuscripts will not be returned.

General

1.) Other Voices does not accept previously published work or simultaneous submissions.

2.) Submissions should be sent in duplicate, with one paper copy being mailed to the postal address below, and one digital .doc formatted copy emailed to the appropriate editor. Please do not include a cover a letter with either the paper or digital copy of your submission, and wait for notice of acceptance or rejection before submitting again.

3.) All paper submissions should be typed on plain white letter-size paper, in 12-point Times New Roman font.

4.) Print on one side of the page.

5.) Paper and email submissions should include the title, author’s name, postal address and email address in the top left-hand corner.

6.) Include page numbers for creative nonfiction, fiction and poems with multiple pages on the bottom in the middle of the pages.

7.) Margins should be 1 inch on all sides.

8.) Please do not inquire about the status of your piece(s) for at least four to six months to allow us to put the issue together on volunteer hours.

Poetry:
Submit no more than five poems at a time. Each poem should be typed on a separate page, with the title underlined. No bolding or italicization should appear, unless it is integral to the form of the poem.

Fiction:
Total submission should not exceed 3,000 words. Submissions should be double spaced, and titles should be underlined-not bolded or italicized.

Creative Nonfiction:
Total submissions should not exceed 3,000 words. Submissions should be double spaced, and titles should be underlined-not bolded or italicized.
