Submissions

Other Voices publishes poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, visual art, features and reviews. While not limited to the publication of female artists, we are proud of our feminist roots and, as such, particularly encourage work by women. In addition to seeking work that reflects diverse cultural, sexual and regional perspectives, we also invite submissions from new and emerging writers and artists. Other Voices is committed to helping underrepresented voices find the space to be heard.

Guidelines

NOTE: We will no longer be sending replies via snail mail. All replies will be sent via email. If you do not have your own email address, we suggest you use a friend or family member’s email.

• Email submissions for poetry and prose are not accepted
• Must be unpublished and NOT a simultaneous submission
• Please submit work in a standard format: typewritten, double-spaced (except poetry), letter-size, white paper.
• Double-sided pages are strongly encouraged.
• Include name, mailing address and email address on every page
• Please use the submission form to accompany your submission
• To save on postage and trees we will respond ONLY via email; if an email response is not an option, we suggest you use a friend or family member’s email address
• We recycle ALL MANUSCRIPTS once we are done reading them.
• We no longer reutrn manuscripts.

Parameters

• Fiction/Non-fiction: Maximum of 5,000 words
• Poetry: Maximum of five pieces
• Features/Reviews: Please send a query about possible feature or review articles to info@othervoices.ca with the words QUERY in the subject line.
• Visual Art: Art should be forwarded on CD or emailed to art@othervoices.ca. We accept a maximum of ten pieces (high resolution .jpg or .bmp, minimum 300 dpi). Each piece should be accompanied by the following: title, date and media choices.

Authors/artists of accepted works will be contacted by email approxiamtely three months after the submission deadline. Please have an electronic copy of your piece along with a short bio ready to send in the same MS Word file.

Other Voices buys First North American Serial Rights. Copyright remains with the author/artist once the piece has been published. Payment for published work(s) is either two brag copies and a year’s subscription, or four brag copies.
